Our Story
Where many technology solutions are born at a networking event over a cocktail, or in a conference room following yet another slideshow, SiteTrax.io was born in a terminal's yard. It all began because real operation managers kept asking the same question:
"Can you tell me where that container ended up?"
Our story begins in 2012 at a company called Netarus, LLC, the provider of a crane and heavy equipment wireless camera operator aid system called HoistCam. Built to give clear visibility with every move, HoistCam quickly became the go to system crane operators used to see each move in action, including across ports and terminal yards. That's when Chris Machut, Founder of both Netarus and SiteTrax.io, kept getting asked "your cameras are pointing right at the container and its ID. Can you tell me where that container ended up?"
With 20 years of experience as a software engineer and a love for real-world problem solving, Chris set out to do just that in 2018 thinking it would be an easy OCR add-on. It wasn't. At all. In fact it was incredibly tough and a total pain to figure out.
As everyone who has ever paid for a logistics tracking technology knows, the physical-world is constantly changing, and the assets in the supply chain endure some of the most rugged conditions that brutally pressure test every solution, and they all pretty much failed or were limited.
So Chris and the team spent 2 years ideating on how to get it done, and when the pandemic hit in 2020, we had a lot of free time on our hands (way too much) and decided it was time to make SiteTrax.io finally happen. So for the next 4 years, the team built an AI-powered computer vision solution from the ground up, and we did it in the real-world with real operations. No computer simulated lab environments, and no mock test sites. It was dirty, it was dark, it was rough. We had signal connection issues, we had people parking in front of cameras, and we had to read a ton of complicated (boring) guides on how to get mobile providers to host our app. But we did it.
in January of 2024, we officially rolled out SiteTrax, Inc as it's own company. To this day, we remain the industry's only AI-powered vision based asset tracking data and intelligence platform capable of using any camera type in the yard, at the gate, and over the road, with the infrastructure to view your data on our live portal or send it anywhere it needs to go. It's time we were all done with proprietary solutions that have locked this industry in damaging silos for decades. It's time you became the master of your own data.
